Introduction:
Until about 1800 theologians and Bible scholars did not dispute the age
of the earth as outlined in the book of Genesis. Genesis described the
creation of the earth and the entire universe in the space of six
literal days by an omnipotent and omniscient God. Moreover, the
genealogies of Genesis 5 and 11 provided a chronological link between
Abraham and Adam. It is not difficult for scholars to approximate the
age of Abraham, and so an easy mathematical survey could approximate
the age of the earth.
When modern "science" invented the hypothesis of evolution they tossed aside the scientific method. No scientist was there to observe the beginning, yet an unprovable theory became an established "scientific fact." Sadly, a great many theologians and scholars have capitulated to the unprovable hypotheses of scientists who are hopelessly biased in favor of uniformitarianism and against Biblical creation. Peter warned us about men like that (2 Pet. 3:3-13). The truth of the matter is that you cannot have creation without the earth and the universe appearing to be older than they really are. One day the earth was not there, but by the end of the sixth day, it was, and it had beautiful trees and plants and animals and birds and fish and man. And starlight reached the earth from the distant corners of the universe. At that instant everything looked much older than it really was if you proceed from a uniformitarian assumption. Fortunately, there are Bible scholars and scientists who have not been cowed by the blind assumptions of most of science. I applaud the work of scientists who give credence to the scientific method and allow it to provide evidence of a recent earth. I hope you enjoy these links to Answers in Genesis, which cite evidences that confirm a young earth.
